How to Create Partitions in Windows 10


A Hard Disk Partition is a way for dividing your local drive into multiple pieces with different space. It can be for different reasons, If you have dual booting different operating systems, it storing the files or applications and other data or creating a space to store your backup file of your system. Each operating system has its own way of partitioning a drive with different space.

Create Partitions in Windows 10


It is totally Depending on your computer settings, In Windows 10 operating system can use as little as four primary partitions Within a primary partition, In partitions, you can an extended primary partition and create other additional logical partitions of your drive.

You have multiple options to create a partition of your drive in Windows 10. You can also use the operating systems inbuilt Disk Management system, Disk Part from the command line "CMD" Port or a third party Software they will also help create a partition of your drive.

1. You have to open Disk Management. Press Windows key + X and click on "Disk Management". Select the drive which you want to create a partition, then right click on the drive and click on "Shrink Volume" to create a new logical partition of the drive.

2. You are able to shrink the partition which totally depends on some factors According to Windows. You cannot shrink a volume drive beyond the point where any unmovable files and folder are located.

3. I have more than 2 GB of free space available in my drive which I can shrink it. some Files on the drive such as my hibernation file, page file used by System Restore that cannot be moved. It turns out that the easiest thing you can do is temporarily disable all three in order to shrink the drive to the desired size.

Now Open Disk Management system again and right-click on the partition, then click Shrink. Choose the amount of space you would like to allocate for the partition. here I will choose 3000 MBs (3 GBs) then click Shrink.
 

4. This process will create a new unallocated partition within Disk Management. but Currently, it is not usable for store any data, so, you will need to initialize it first. So, Right-click on the partition then click New Simple Volume.

Click Next.

5. If you want to create another partition, you can also shrink the partition even further to create additional partitions.  Click on Next.
 
6. You can assign any name of the available drive, the partition will be mounted in File Explorer. Click on Next.

7. You have to give the volume a label(name) so it can be easily recognized by you. You also have an another option of choosing file systems such as FAT or FAT32. then Click Next
 

8. Now Click on Finish to apply changes.

9. Your new partition of the hard disk will show up in Disk Management as well as File Explorer as a local drive. Now You can store files even redirect your personal folders there and save data.
