How to Make Wireless Broadband Internet Secure

There are several ways to access the internet. It could either be with a computer, with a mobile phone  with a portable device. One great thing about most of these devices is that they are now being developed to have broadband internet support and a lot of them are wireless enabled which means they can browse the internet without the need for cables.

Even though having support for Wireless Broadband usage is awesome it is also very important to realize that there are some problems attached to it and that if you’re not very careful your wireless network can easily be hacked and the files on your computer affected. This post will be giving you a few tips to ensure your wireless broadband internet is highly secure so as to prevent you from being hacked.

Install a Firewall

The first thing to do to ensure the security of your computer and wireless internet is to Install a Firewall on both your router and on your computer because this way you will easily know when anybody is trying toget into your computer. What I’m trying to say is that a firewall notifies you whenever anybody or website/hacker is trying to hack your computer so it will give you the opportunity to block them first before they get to you.

Install an Antivirus

Even though having a firewall is great and can do a great deal to prevent your computer from being hacked it is very important that you realize that a firewall can’t do everything so you have to take extra measures to keep your computer secure. One of those measures you can take is to install an antivirus on your computer because this way you will be able to prevent viruses from entering your computer thus making it difficult for hackers to get access to your wireless network.

It is also very important that you do a regular scan of your computer and that you also ensure your antivirus is always updated. A virus might be in your computer without you knowing, but by doing a regular scan you will easily detect it. Making sure your antivirus is always up to date will also ensure that it is solid enough to combat new viruses.

Use Strong Encryption Keys

One thing about using wireless networks is that you have the option to make it more secure using strong wireless encryption keys. The 3 major types of encryption keys we have are the WEP, the WPA and the WPA2 encryption keys. If your wireless router has support for the WPA2 encryption protocol make sure you use it while at the same time making sure you are the only one who knows what your encryption key is.

Use Powerful Passwords that Only You Know

Another thing to do to secure your wireless broadband internet is to make use of powerful passwords that only you know. This means your password should be a combination of letters, numbers, symbols and that you don’t tell anybody about it. You should also make sure your password isn’t a common word and that it also can’t be found in a dictionary.
